wow, someone took the tome to fill this out on my website's form mail. i get so much spam everyday, but this person had to fill this in at my website. it wasn't just a program sending out emails! that's a lot of energy!

i was watching ny1 the other day and they were interviewing people about a same-sex marriage law being passed in new york. one woman said something along the lines of, "i'm very happy that this law passed in places like massachusetts and iowa and i look forward to it passing here in new york." i made fun of her for days! who's the ass now?

i've never been one for the details of finishing something, but since i made this hat, it's not all that bad! the hat turned out a little small so i added a front panel to it... maybe it's just that i have a huge forehead?

Bath time

I always hear non-bath taking people saying that they don't like "stewing in their own filth." I have two earnest questions:

1) Do these people use hot tubs. If they do, how is bath tub water less fresh or clean?

2) How dirty are these people on a daily basis?

In defense of us bath takers, the wonderful thing about water molecules is that they're way too big for dirt to bond to. Now soap? Dirt loves sticking to soap. That's the beauty of soap. You know when you see that nasty looking soap bar? The dirt isn't going to redeposit itself on to you. It's bound to the soap! It'll just wash away with the water, stuck to the soap. Remember the Dove Soap tv ads? They'd put a drop of soap in that nasty water and the dirt would vanish.

Am I wrong?

I learned the sign for "clown" yesterday. I should have known better than to even bring it up, but I didn't. So, of course, they had a clown in a suitcase in our classroom.

We were signing questions like "what do you like" and "what do not like?" I said clown. That was a mistake. Although, the idea of there being a clown in the room was more frightening than the actual clown.

I must say that getting out of the city is sometimes really nice. No matter where I go... Even St. Louis! My vice-parents condo is nice and surrounded by willow trees and a pond with a fountain in the middle. But there's a busy road nearby, so I don't feel too disconnected from my city life.

here's the beginning of my second pixie hood attempt for Indigo Inspired. i first started with this pattern from lion brand, but it looked so meh with or without the braids. so i did a search for a pixie hood and came across this pattern. LOOOVE it! it looks more refined than the braided hood and i can adjust the size in the back as i knit. and that's good for trying to get the right size for dreads!

also, the new pattern is downloaded from ravelry which made it easy to cast on into my projects! i like that i can also contact the pattern designer... unlike lionbrand. here's the designer's cosy knits literally etsy shop.

gramma's booties

these were SO easy to make! the only problem that i had was that my stitches were much tighter on the second footie. (and didn’t notice till i sewed up the back) but, it was easy to fix by adding extra rows to the main part. one looks a little more odd than the other, but i don’t think gramma will care when her feet are nice and toasty!

my life in holes

here are pictures of the holes in my life. the one on the bathroom floor has been there for over just 2 years. the big one on the back wall and the one under the kitchen sink have been there for a little over a month. and the small one on the right of the bathroom wall has been there for about 6 months. this makes living here, shall i say, interesting.

this was SP easy to make and only took a couple days to complete the squares. it was from the posh poncho & granny square bag pattern by lion brand. but i just used the patterns for the squares and sewed them all together.

new york city loooves steel pulse

and so do i!!! last night steel pulse played for free in battery city. it was a park on the river with views of the statue of liberty and the empire state building. chris and i got there a little after the show started and the park was packed! there were families with children running around and joggers and people in business suits and rastas and and and... talk about one love!

chris and i were dancing at the back of the park when i looked around and really took in the views and the people and one of my favorite kinds of music all in my favorite city-it was hard to not cry because it was so freakin' cool! sometimes nyc is almost too good to be true!

sometimes reggae isn't as good live as you would want, but steel pulse sounded GREAT!!! they were set up under a little pagoda just off the sidewalk. the sounds was great everywhere in the park! we walked around to the back of the stage because we were trying to leave (getting up at 5 makes for early nights) but the sound was so good behind the stage we danced there for a while too. it was an amazing time and god, do i LOOOOVE reggae!! kind of makes me miss my dreads...

i went to the murakami exhibit at the brooklyn museum last weekend. it was amazing! matt hated it. he said it looks like murakami simply took lsd and doodled. but the size of everything was so impressive... and murakami is a marketing genius to say the least!

my mom told me a couple weeks ago that she wanted to see it, but it closes on the 15th! normally i would tell her not to spend the money to come. but the show was so amazing, that i told her to get her butt up here! so, she's coming next week! WHOO HOO for mom!!!!

it's official, i am now totally certified with Bella Pictures! whoo hoo! my schedule is now filling up quite fast and i couldn't be more happy! i really like the company and i sometimes can't believe that they're real. this is how it works: they send their new york photogs a date for a wedding. you can reply, saying that you're free for that date, or you can ignore it. then, if you're free and your personal shooting style matched with the bride and groom's desired style, you're picked to be their photog. then, you shoot the wedding, send the picts to nevada and wait for the paycheck. it's so easy! i keep all the rights to the picts and can do anything but sell them. it's almost too good to believe! oh yah, and you can shoot one wedding or 100, it's all the same to them! and they have health, equipment, and liability insurance! whoo hoo.

who doesn't love a great liability insurance plan?????

the stitch for this belt is linen stitch. i LOVE the two textures! it's so lumpy on one side and flat on the other.

i have posted the pattern, but there's a disclaimer that goes along with it. i haven't looked at a crochet pattern in so long and i can't remember how to word things. i crochet the yarn onto the d-rings and then the knit stitches that are formed are picked up with a knitting needle and so begins the linen stitch.

if anyone out there has any input about the pattern, contact me here.

i have finally finished the blanket! well, ok, i need to block it and weave in the yarn ends.... i am very pleased. my weird color decisions at the center don't look as bad as i thought. and adding a ribbed border was also easy, even with the increases.

p.s. this is the "knit from the center square blanket" in my patterns section. try it, you'll like it! you could knit forever and ever with this pattern, which is a little unnerving, but that's how i roll. ;-)

oh boy! i got a new pattern from hansigurumi... a garden snail! this time i have had much more success than the octopus! i'm already in love with him, just from looking at the shell. i am amazed at what i can do with knitting. i can't believe hansi can write these amazing patterns so well!!!!! she's the coolest!

the first picture is the underside of the shell before i grafted it together and stuffed it. i also used the recommended pipe cleaner to help with the curl.

lunar eclipse

seeing our shadow on the moon, and seeing saturn just beyond (the blue one at the top of the frame) made the sky seem 3 dimensional for the first time. i've always looked at the sky and just seen pinpoints on a flat black surface. well, maybe now that will change.

i was recently thinking about my trip to peru and how, i think out of all of the places that i've been, peru was my favorite. now i wish that i had been a knitter when i went 'cause i would have brought back bags and bags of alpaca wool! i think alpaca is my new favorite fiber. i mean, you can't go wrong with something that's 60x warmer than sheep's wool!!!!

as i mentioned in the single cable scarf post, i was working on a scarf and cap sleeve shrug for my friend toshi-dj rio-and her new husband mitsuru. here is her blog translated into english. the translation is a little silly, but you can see where she wrote a little story about getting the package with her gifts. because if the silly translation, i am not going to call the scarf the "uzumaki maki maki's muffler"

well, that was a good convention! but i was wildly disappointed with the closing party. we had the run of the tampa aquarium at night...god, it was so cool! but, besides some women shooting picts of themselves and guys with their cameras hung around their necks and their unnecessarily long lenses (the male photographers' way of making up for his inadequacies in the business end of things) no one was really taking pictures!!! so many people didn't even have their cameras with them. my husband even noticed that it was a surprisingly camera free evening! i guess that it's just a job to them.... and i feel bad for them! did they start out that way? did they not go to art school? are they just "too old" in their minds to have passion for photography ALL the time? i should have asked. maybe i'll never know.

holiday slowdown

so, after filling the blanket buddy order and a beehive hat order... (see picts below) and now that the holidays are over, i'm finally able to get back to finishing my wedding present for my dear friend in japan, now that the wedding gift year mark has come and passed. (oops!) although, i'm almost done and it's faster than her request for advil and oreos-neither of which they have in japan-that took me almost 4 years to remember. (oops again! i really need reminding. it's lame, i know)

anyhoo, i made the scarf from the november 27th post for her hubby and she's getting a fake fur cap-sleeved shrug. i'll post pictures when they're done!

hmm... maybe i am just too old for whatever was going on at that "craft fair" but it was really more like craptacular. there was only one ceramics maker. there were only a couple random knitters/crocheters with about 5 hats. only 2 people with handspun yarn and i don't think that they were the actual spinners 'cause the yarn looked exactly the same at both tables. mostly it was all printed tshirts and jewelry-neither of which i really wear. oh yah... and no photographers in sight! maybe i'm crazy, but i think that a craft fair in the suburbs would have been much more crafty!

i think i'm also disappointed 'cause i dragged my wonderful husband there thinking he would find some fun art or toys, but there really wasn't much of that either. there was one girl that made owls and whales out of felted sweaters. LOVED them! and she made these other little things out of felt, all with their own cute little story... like zee handsome devil.

i've been trying to advertise and promote my knitting and photography a little more. so, i made a page on indiepublic.com yesterday. i can never figure out if these places are good for getting my work out there to people other than artists.... people looking for art and not just making art. although, it's very nice to be around (in a cyber sort of way)

i've also been learning how to integrate flash pages into html sites-here and on indiepublic. now, i just need to crack open that flash book!

i nice woman in kauaii ordered 3 of my blanket buddis and one big one. i love the big ones, but i'm not happy with the yarn that i'm using for the little ones. i think i'm going to have to make the other 2 little bunnies with different yarn.

i am almost finished with this totally fun scarf. it's just stockinette stitch with 2 purls around a single cable. i have LOVED making it! the colors are really fun and earthy. it's for my friend toshi's new hubby-her present soon to come.

another attempt

ok, i'm having another go at blogging... this time it'll be more about knitting than photography.
here is my new favorite toy-the jellyfish. i used berroco's alpaca yarn... fancy, i know! but it didn't really take too much and it's also what i had available at the time. the two needle felted hedgehogs don't really know what to think of their fancy new neighbor.

i also just finished her octopus, too. i totally flailed with some of the short rows around his neck, but luckily it's dark yarn and i could fill in the holes when i was sewing his mantle to his legs. i don't really know what i did wrong-i think i just lost count a couple times. i'm gonna make another soon and we'll see.
